Be Here Now is the bold, new multi-media dance show from Arabian Dance Theatre. The unique event is an explosion of modern, Arabic dance, music and culture – inspired by the events of the Arab Spring movement and its parallels with the 2011 London Riots.
This inspirational production, appropriately takes place in Tottenham, at the world-class Bernie Grant Arts Centre, on 12th and 13th of October 2012.
Dunya Bellydance’s Co-Founder, Michelle Deniz also serves as Arabian Dance Theatre’s Operations Director and is featured as a dancer in Be Here Now. She will also offer a free introduction to bellydance workshop for beginners on October 14th.
Michelle Deniz said, “I’m thrilled to be part of an inspirational and unique production that raises positive awareness of Arabic culture through music and dance in a world class theatre setting – there’s nothing else like it in the UK so don’t miss out!”
The show is a contemporary expression of youth, defiance and revolution and their effect on art; offering a rare and refreshing look at Arab culture through a vibrant mix of street and club culture, hip hop, rap, street, contemporary, pop music and dance, combined with modern Shaabi and Debke folklore.
With virtually no representation of Arabic dance elsewhere in UK theatres, the uplifting event will showcase rarely seen skills, while free workshops will inspire people to learn, participate in, and enjoy Arabic art and dance.
According to producer, Tara Lee Oakley, “With so much emphasis on negative elements of Arabic and Islamic culture in the media, we wanted to give people an opportunity to see many of the rich, positive and beautiful aspects of Arabic culture in an authentic, modern way. With so much artistic expression emerging right now especially from young people, we wanted to bring these exciting performances to the stage, and to an international audience.”
