Aiming to empower London-based women, Ozgen’s One Day in Istanbul presented by Dunya is an innovative community project that brings together a mix of amateur and professional dancers from diverse backgrounds to take part in an Ottoman Turkish-inspired dance theatre show at the Cockpit Theatre on 2nd December 2012. Eleya is one of our beautiful and talented cast members, and this is her story.
Tell us a bit about yourself…
I am an insurance and risk professional who’s been siting in the office a lot on a day to day basis for the years. One day I decided to rejuvenate my dance and preforming passion from my school years when I used to do ballet and various chinese classical/tribal dance. My bellydancing journey has just begun, it has been a ray of sunshine, excitement and joy so far and I can’t wait to do more of it.
Why did you decide to join the One Day in Istanbul project?
I love the fact that we are performing for the community. I believe in the idea of empowering women and would love to support and promote that to people where I can.
What has been the best part about participating in this project thus far?
Dancing with a group of like minded people. The passion to dance is intense in every occasions. The production team have been fabulous.
